Limousines Franchise or Licence?

Because most people can identify with the concept of a franchise, we have referred to this business opportunity as a franchise to keep things simple. The description is also designed to avoid confusion over our own licensing programme as distinct from that required by the local authorities. However, for clarity our programme is actually a "Licensing Agreement" and whilst there are many similarities, there are critical differences and it is essential that everyone understands what these are.

Rather than granting a franchise, Cars for Stars provides a 'Licence Agreement' whereby a local business person is granted with a licence to operate their local business under the Cars for Stars name, for example, the Nottingham area, whilst referred to as Cars for Stars (Nottingham), may well have a trading style of, 'John R Smith trading as Cars for Stars (Nottingham) operating under licence from Cars for Stars Limited'. But of course this is not the only difference.

As with a franchise, there is a minimum fixed term and the agreement can be extended, similarly, with our consent, the business can be sold as a going concern. We have the right to approve the potential purchaser in the same way as we would any prospective "Licensee". All Cars for Stars Licensees are required to sign a Licence Agreement and adhere to a set of guidelines provided in our Operations Manual. In our view, the Licence Agreement is not particularly daunting, given most of the content is is commonsense and commonplace. Unlike many franchisors, we are not dependant on the income generated by our network for our profit, therefore, we are not obliged to sell our wares for survival. Similarly, this means that we do not have to compromise on the standards we have set ourselves and our network and we have no need to hard sell our programme.

Unlike a franchise, we do not charge an exorbitant 'franchise fee', nor do we charge royalties based on turnover and insist on a 'turnover based' contribution to a central marketing fund. Instead, we charge a low, annual Licence Fee. Our fixed, low cost annual fees are designed to provide our Licensees with the opportunity to invest in their business for the medium to long term and not penalise those that are the most successful by applying a turnover based calculation to the fees. That notwithstanding, this is not a 'get rich quick scheme' and our selection process is designed to discount anyone that believes otherwise.

However, we should provide a warning to the feint hearted, we operate an honest and transparent approach to all of our business dealings, be this with our hire customers or our Licensees, so we pull no punches with our responses.

We have no need and for that matter, no desire, no exaggerate what we do and embellish what we do not, simply to roll out our network at a fast pace. We will leave exaggeration and empty promises to those that would attempt to replicate what we do. If you prefer an honest, no-nonsense approach to your business dealings, then you have almost certainly come to the right place. If, o the other hand, you want to work with an organisation with a substantial support and management network (all of which you will be paying for),  a 'personal manager' who will tell you where you are going wrong and manager rather than risk takers, then it is clearly time to move on to another site. We provide a comprehensive programme, but it is the essentials, not the frills that we concentrate on!
